BABY OF THE YEAR 2026 || Presentation Held at Bwiam General Hospital

FaBB presented item to the mother

On 1st January 2026, the Maternity Unit of our hospital hosted the Baby of the Year 2026 presentation, organized by the Fatoumatta Bah Barrow Foundation (FaBB). The annual event celebrates safe deliveries and maternal care while recognizing the first babies born in the New Year in the hospitals across the country.

Three newborns were officially recorded and honored in the Bwiam General Hospital:
• 1st Baby: Born to Isatou Sanyang, 34 years old, from Mayork. A female baby weighing 3.3kg, delivered at exactly 12:00am.
• 2nd Baby: Born to Mariama Jarju, 33 years old, from Tambakunda. A male baby weighing 3.5kg, delivered at 2:00am.
• 3rd Baby: Born to Jariatou Badjie, 27 years old, from Arrangalen. A male baby weighing 3.3kg, delivered at 1:30pm.
The delegation was led by the Governor of the West Coast Region, Hon. Ousman Bojang, accompanied by his wife. Other dignitaries present included Mr. Momodou Baldeh, Representative of the Fatoumatta Bah Barrow Foundation, and Mrs. Fatou Janneh, Representative of the Ministry of Gender.
The program began with opening remarks by the Chief Executive Officer of Bwiam General Hospital, Mr. Kebba Manneh. This was followed by goodwill messages from the Governor, the FaBB representative, and the Ministry of Gender representative, all of whom emphasized the importance of maternal and newborn health and community support for mothers.
During the presentation, the 1st Baby received a baby hamper gift-set and a cash prize of D20,000. The 2nd Baby received a baby hamper gift-set and D10,000 in cash.The 3rd Baby also received a baby hamper gift-set and D10,000 in cash.
In appreciation of their dedication and service, the Maternity Unit staff were collectively awarded D10,000 in cash.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Acting In-Charge of the Maternity Unit, Miss Aminata Macauley, who expressed gratitude to FaBB, the visiting delegation, and hospital management for their continued support to mothers, newborns, and frontline health workers.
