Dr. Fatoumatta T. Ceesay – A Devoted Medical Officer and Community Advocate

Dr. Fatoumatta T. Ceesay, a proud native of Jarra Sankuya in The Gambia’s Lower River Region, has quickly become one of the most respected and beloved doctors at Bwiam General Hospital. She began her medical journey at the University of The Gambia in 2013 and graduated in 2021. Following her houseman ship at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, she was appointed as a medical officer and later joined Bwiam General Hospital in June 2024.

With nearly four years of service, Dr. Ceesay has distinguished herself through her tireless dedication, compassion, and hands-on approach to patient care—so much so that colleagues affectionately refer to her as “a nurse in a doctor’s coat.” Her commitment has earned her the admiration of hospital leadership and deep appreciation from patients.

Stationed at the Maternity Unit since her arrival, Dr. Ceesay has found her passion in maternal health, where she not only provides clinical care but also champions community awareness among women. She believes in building stronger communities through healthcare and envisions her career as a long-term force for improving women’s health and well-being.

Described by peers as hardworking, humble, and deeply skilled, Dr. Ceesay credits her positive experience to the supportive and dedicated staff of the maternity team, with whom she shares a close professional bond.

At Bwiam General Hospital, we are proud to celebrate Dr. Fatoumatta T. Ceesay — a shining example of what it means to serve with heart, skill, and purpose!
