Bwiam, The Gambia
Bwiam General Hospital had the honour of hosting the World Bank Regional Director for West Africa and his delegation, accompanied by the leadership of the Ministry of Health, during the 2026 African Caucus meeting of the World Bank and IMF held in The Gambia.
The visit was undertaken to inspect the recently completed World Bank-funded construction and renovation project at the hospital, which is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve the quality of service delivery.
During the visit, the delegation toured the upgraded facilities and held discussions with the hospital management. They expressed satisfaction with the project’s successful completion and high quality, recognising significant improvements made to the hospital’s infrastructure.
The World Bank delegation also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Bwiam General Hospital by providing additional medical equipment to further enhance healthcare services for the communities it serves.
The visit underscores the strong partnership between the Government of The Gambia and the World Bank in advancing access to quality healthcare and strengthening the country’s health system.
